A new app allowing residents of Hyndburn to order food from over 40 local takeaways has been launched. The app, which is being developed by Alex Harper, who runs the popular Yankee Kitchen in Burnley, hopes to raise money for local food banks, charities and grassroots football clubs. In a first phase, the app will help support the Clayton Baptist Church food bank. For more information, visit Hyndburn Eats.
Food hygiene is important, and Hyndburn has some of the worst in the country. Food hygiene is so important that Hyndburn Borough Council implemented a national scoring scheme to encourage consumers to make informed decisions about where to eat. The rating system, which is carried out annually, rates local takeaways and supermarkets on a scale from one to five stars, so that consumers can see which businesses meet the highest standards. In Hyndburn, nine out of 105 takeaways were graded 'unsatisfactory', while 41 tookaway shops and supermarkets failed to achieve a satisfactory rating.
